The augmented reality game will take on Pokemon Go on the app store charts

The Harry Potter version of popular Pokemon Go! Game will be launched tomorrow, on June 21st, 2019.

The game lets would-be witches and wizards help rid the muggle world of magical beasts and items.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite lets players use their wand (smartphone) and prepare potions (swiping on your smartphones) to help prevent disaster, caused by ‘The Calamity’. Players will be tasked with tracking down missing artefacts, creatures, people and memories before returning them to their proper place.

According to developers Niantic, many exclusive items will appear in public parks and libraries – meaning players are bound to run in to each other.

Gamers will also be able to visit locations in the Harry Potter universe, such as Gringotts bank or Ollivander’s wand shop by finding hidden port keys. You will also be able to stop off at inns to buy food and drink, and even duel against Death Eaters.

Niantic first said it was developing the game back in 2017, along with a slew of other augmented reality-based location-aware games. The company’s first foray into the world of gaming was Pokemon Go!, which was a runaway success.

The game has been available in New Zealand for a month now, and most recently Australia.

According to a developer, ‘It’s what everyone imagines when you read the Harry Potter books. You imagine the characters and world coming to life around you.

‘Harry Potter: Wizards Unite takes this a step further and brings it to life in your world so that you can actually see all the magical characters and fantastic creatures all around you. It’s almost like you can reach out and touch them.’

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be available on both Google Play and Apple App Store tomorrow, June 21 2019.
