World’s 50 Best Restaurants will be revealed for the first time in the history of the awards in Asia this year. 2019’s best chefs and their teams will be revealed in Singapore on June 23.
The move to Singapore follows similar high-profile and well attended international events in Australia and Bilbao, Spain in the recent years. Along with hosting next year’s flagship event, Singapore will also host Asia’s 50 Best Bars in 2019 and 2020 and the World’s 50 Best Bars 2021.
The organisers have partnered with Singapore Tourism Board (STB) on a series of 50 Best-branded events over a three-year period.Guests in Singapore will be able to attend masterclasses and bespoke dinners from some of the world’s finest chefs.
This year will see the return of the 50 Best Talks forum which will see some of the world’s best chefs and culinary leaders outline their visions for the future through food. In 2020, a special standalone edition of #50BestTalks, presented by Miele, will also take place in Singapore where thought-leaders in gastronomy will discuss topical issues, food trends and dining hotspots.
The number one position is highly coveted with past awards going to Massimo Bottura of Osteria Francescana, Daniel Humm of Eleven Madison Park and Joan Roca of El Celler de Can Roca. It will be interesting to see if the world’s most talked about event in the culinary world can overcome past criticisms of being too male and western focused with its 2019 edition.
