Cheat day is a self-prescribed carte blanche, so you may as well take full advantage and this magnificent slab of dark, rich chocolate cake is exactly how to do so.
The African Powerhouse dessert, by Dubai-grown restaurant 3Fils is exactly what it says it is – a barnstormingly rich dessert made from truckloads of the finest single origin dark chocolate – NYANGBO 68% – to be grown in West Africa.
Thanks to its natural hot, sunny and humid conditions, farmers in Ghana have cultivated some of Africa’s best cacao for more than a century.
NYANGBO 68% is distinguished by its subtle acidity that allows a note of round chocolate warmth, which the clever chefs at 3Fils use to create a soft and sweet spiciness, giving it a delicate bitterness. But technical stuff aside, it looks (and tastes) magnificent.
Last year 3Fils opened up its very own dessert bar (so it’s good to see it’s making full use of it).
The restaurant has long been a staple on Esquire’s Best Restaurants list over the last three years.
The small 30-seater, homegrown restaurant tucked away in the Jumeirah Fishing Village marina has amassed a loyal list of regulars (including us) and is very rarely empty because of that. Helmed by Singaporean-born chef Akmal Anuar who used to help at his parents hawker stall, the restaurant serves a handful of high-end but simple Asian-inspired tapas dishes, at casual eatery prices.
In other food news, Palm Jumeirah’s Palm West Beach just went dog-friendly.
The Palm’s new stretch of public beach officially opens this Thursday October 15, and like the Palm’s Al Ittihad Park you can bring your dog along for a walk.
Palm West Beach is also home to restaurants (such as the recently-visited Koko Bay) and public beach space (it’s a bit like Club Vista Mare’s West-Coast cousin).
