The idea is similar to pick-up lockers used by Amazon and Noon.com

Pizza Hut is testing out heated lockers, a concept which would keep your order hot until you pick it up.

The concept allows pizza-lovers to order a pie the moment they get hungry, and then come grab it whenever it’s most convenient.

The brand – which is based in Dallas, Texas – is currently trailing the new technology in a few California restaurants. It has made use of a new generation of lockers like the ones used for packages by companies such as Amazon, Noon.com and Aramex.

The lockers are equipped with an advanced heating and cooling system, meaning they can keep cheese pizzas hot and ice cold drinks cold, all at the same time.

Customers place their order via smartphone using an app, which then reserves them a locker with a digital screen that displays clients’ names. The locker is then opened up when the owner walks into the store, by inputting a code displayed on the app.

Pizza Hut seems smitten by the idea; it has said more take-out lockers will be deployed for testing all along the West Coast early next year.

Pizza hut has more than 16,800 restaurants around the world, with almost 2,800 locations in the Middle East alone.
