The Maldives, once a remote ‘desert-island’ style holiday destination that offered secluded serenity far from the maddening crowds, but, now as its popularity (and accessibility) continues to grow, dozens of its five-star resorts compete in one-upping each other for exclusivity. Private dinners, golf courses and, now, even submarine excursions.
The latter of this is the latest unique offering from luxury resort Patina Maldives. Located in the North Male Atol’s Fari Islands the hotel is looking to not only showcase the incredible beauty of the resort above water, but below it too.
Forget standard Scuba diving, the hotel is now offering its guests the chance to dive deeper into the Indian Ocean in its new two-person submarine, the Ocean Pearl.
Now, we do understand that anyone following one of 2023’s most shocking news stories, might have a certain element of hesitancy to clamber into a submarine and dive headfirst into the ocean’s depths – but we are assured that the Ocean Pearl was engineered with every safety measure and precaution in mind.
The new deep-sea explorer was designed by SEAmagine Hydrospace Corporation, the world leaders in recreational submarine diving, in conjunction with Dive Butler, whose submarine pilots have completed SEAmagine’s industry-standard, rigorous pilot training program.
Captained by an on-board pilot and a surface co-pilot, who serve as both safety chiefs and educational marine life tour guides, each venture promises an intimate look at the gorgeous corals, exotic marine species, and sunken treasures.
If you’re looking for a more hands-on experience rather than a sightseeing tour, Ocean Pearl also offers immersive initiatives that allow guests to contribute directly to the preservation and protection of underwater flora and fauna. Guests can presume the role of research assistants, aiding the islands Marine Biologists in data collection and documentation, contributing to a greater understanding of the ocean’s ecosystems.
