As the coronavirus pandemic grew, Japan was one of the first countries to close its international travel borders. Now, it has opened that up to UAE visitors starting October.
Just like pretty much every country in the world, Japan has been hit hard by the lack of travellers over the last six months.
When it first closed its borders it drew stark criticism for not letting those currently of its borders (who has legal visas to live in the country) back in, effectively stranding them outside of the country. They can now return to Japan starting October, as well.
The Japanese government has said that it has successfully lowerd numbers enough to safely re-open travel to Japan for countries worldwide, including the UAE, starting next month.
Visitors from the country who ant to visit Japan will still be required to complete a two week quarantine period, before being allowed to join the general public.
Two more things to know if you are thinking about heading to Japan from the UAE; the first being that you will still need a negative COVID-19 test to fly there. The second, that Japan will limit all inbound traffic to just 1,000 people per day.
In case you missed it, Japan has set a new date for the Tokyo Olympics: July 23, 2021.
Japan’s government previously said it was negotiating with the IOC to postpone the Games by a year at most due to the coronavirus outbreak, the Sankei newspaper reported.
Tokyo Olympics will now run from July 23 to August 8,2021 and the paralympics from August 23 to September 4, 2021.
Less than five months later, the region will see the Winter Olympics 2022 being held from February 4, 2022 to February 20, 2022.
