Elon Musk has released first images of SpaceX’s Starship Mk1 prototype super rocket in Texas. In less than a week’s time, it will see its first flight test.
The Starship is Musk’s best-guess at how humans will travel in space. The spaceship, which looks like a big silvery silo equipped with rocket fins, will transport humans and cargo to and from Space. Musk has even said versions of the Starship will one day carry travellers around the moon, and even to Mars.
While the Mk1 is being tested this week, it’s still smaller than an Mk2 structure that is currently being built at SpaceX’s site in Florida.
During a live-streamed flight test on Saturday, Musk is expected to discuss plans for testing and flying Starship over the next few years.
Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa has struck a deal with Musk, to become the first paying customer to circle the moon in 2020. Musk has also said that the Starship will be the first space vessel to take trips to the moon, as well as supersonic point-to-point travel around the Earth.
Musk has been trading information with his many followers on Twitter since unveiling the image. Here are some of the highlights.
