Airbnb has pulled the wraps of ‘Luxe’, a new category of short-term rentals that includes the likes of French châteaux, villas in Tuscany, and historic properties like castles, for those who’ve got the cash to burn.
The service has long been known for cheaper, more affordable accommodation over traditional hotels. However, the move is set to accommodate demand from Airbnb guess for luxury stays and experiences.
According to Airbnb, bookings for listings worth at least $1,000 per night increased more than 60 percent last year.
Kicking off the service – which launched today – are 2,000 homes that have passed 300-various criteria, including design, function, chef-grade appliances and historical significance.
All Luxe bookings come along with a dedicated ‘Trip Designer’ whose role is to take care of your every want and desire, right down to bookings and check-in, to childcare and bespoke itineraries around your stay.
“Today’s luxury traveler is craving more than just high-end accommodations. They seek transformation and experiences that leave them feeling more connected to each other and to their destination,” said Brian Chesky, Airbnb Co-Founder in a statement.
“With Airbnb Luxe we are applying the same approach we’ve used since we launched Airbnb more than 11 years ago — creating local, authentic and magical travel moments now in amazing places to stay — to reimagine the way people think and experience luxury travel.”
There are high-profile Luxe properties in most cities. Alongside French castles, there are penthouse suits in the likes of London and Los Angeles. More destinations, such as Milan, Paris and Austin are set to be added later this year.
Airbnb has not said when its Luxe services will begin in the Middle East. Currently, the service offers Airbnb Plus – which offers apartments that have passed certain criteria, including location, design and amenities.
