More music news, as pop prince Charlie Puth announces a return to the UAE, with a Live Nation Abu Dhabi gig set for October 1 (tickets go on sale here, Friday at noon). We decided to check out the singer’s back catalogue. Not gona lie, it revealed some collabs that we really didn’t see coming when the guy was doing comedy skits and cover versions on his YouTube blog, Charlie Vlogs back in 2009.
As the Grammy and Golden Globe-nominated singer prepares to play Etihad Arena on Yas Island—part of his ‘Charlie Live Experience’ to promote third studio album (you guessed it) Charlie—here are just some of the tracks we need to talk about.
See You Again with Wiz Khalifa (2015)
Puth wrote, co-produced and featured on the Wiz Khalifa track that was a tribute to the late actor Paul Walker. It also featured on the Furious 7 soundtrack. The song stayed at number one on the Hot 100 Billboard for 12 weeks, was nominated for three Grammys, a Golden Globe, and shortlisted for Song of The Year for the BBC Music Awards.
Working Class Heroes (Work) with CeeLo Green (2015)
Puth produced the perky pop/RnB track which featured on Green’s fifth studio album, taking his place alongside names including Elton John, Bernie Taupin and Mark Ronson on the credits list.
Changes with James Taylor (2018)
Another one from Voicenotes, but who saw a collab with the six-time Grammy winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee James Taylor? A nice simple arrangement picked up decent critical acclaim for both Puth and Taylor.
Minefield with Faouzia and John Legend (2020)
Puth penned the track for the Moroccan singer that featured on her 2020 EP Citizens. Performed with John legend, the track charted in both Canada and France.
Stay with The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber (2021)
An absolute banger, Puth actually wrote the track, produced the beats and even played drums. The song broke the record for the longest charting single in the US in the top two spots for 20 weeks, leapfrogging “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X.
