Although he was widely expected to die, or become king, or be the Prince That Was Promised, or have some other big important ending, things ended pretty humbly for Jon Snow.
After he killed his queen/lover/aunt, Jon Snow was not automatically granted the throne even though he was technically the rightful heir to the Seven Kingdoms. Instead, Tyrion helped set up a new form of government where the ruler is chosen by the lords of the realm. And their first king is none other than Bran Stark, who has done nothing but chill out and not provide valuable information to anyone around him.
But poor Jon, he was actually sent to the wall as punishment for killing Daenerys Targaryen, which is technically fair since he killed a queen and all. But at the same time seems pretty harsh considering he stopped a tyrannical ruler who just massacred millions of people.
Anyway, it’s pretty unclear what, exactly, is the point of the wall anymore now that the wildlings are their friends and the White Walkers are dead. But at the end of the series we see Jon Snow head back to the wall where he finds Tormund, Ghost (who lost an ear?), and the rest of the Wildlings. We last see Jon presumably heading north of the wall to live with the Wildlings. Maybe he’ll find another Wildling lady, like Ygritte. Maybe spring will come to the North (we do see a little plant sprouting up from the snow).
And, maybe, Jon Snow got exactly what he deserved in the end.
