If you went for a late night walk in The Dubai Mall recently and felt the presence of a Slytherin in your mist, your senses weren’t deceiving you–that really was Draco Malfoy himself, Tom Felton.
A video has since been released, showing Tom Felton trapped overnight in the mall, having the time of his life.
Okay so Tom Felton didn’t really get stuck in The Dubai Mall. He is the star of their ‘Mall Alone’ campaign with Visit Dubai which sees the actor, best known for portraying Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films visiting the top mall attractions and stealing a buggy to get around the massive shopping venue.
Tom Felton’s adventure
After falling asleep while watching a movie at Reel Cinemas, Tom Felton wakes up and realises the mall could be closed as he rushes to one of the revolving door exits and comes to find that he was right. The doors won’t move and he’s now trapped in The Dubai Mall. However, the fear on his face quickly turns into a cheeky grin as he realises that there are worse places to be stuck for the night than the biggest mall in Dubai.
Next we see Felton skipping along as he makes his way to the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo to check out the fish and take some photos. In the meantime, the mall police are in hot pursuit in a buggy but despite following the popcorn trail, are unable to catch Felton. The mall security soon realise that the popcorn was a distraction, as the actor rushes over to the empty buggy and hijacks it to help him get around the mall.
Dubai Mall becomes a quidditch stadium
Despite not having his usual broomstick, Tom Felton is highly adept at driving a buggy. The Dubai Mall quickly turns into a quidditch stadium as trying to catch the actor is like attempting to catch the golden snitch as he evades the mall security on multiple occasions.
Realizing that he himself is the golden snitch in this scenario and cannot catch himself, Felton decides to stop to play a game of golf at the EGolf Megastore before making his way to the Kinokuniya Bookstore.
He finds his autobiography Tom Felton: Beyond The Wand on the shelves and leaves it in the empty mall buggy for the security guard to find. Upon opening it, the guard realises that it has been personally signed by the actor with a message that reads:
“To my coolest fan!”
The final scene
The chase continues at the Dubai Ice Rink where Felton is seen skating around. It appears that the guard has finally caught up to the actor who is seemingly unaware of his presence. However, as the guard grabs Felton, he realises that it’s just a mannequin and the actor can been seen looking on, smirking at the humiliating incident in typical Draco Malfoy style.
One Twitter user reacted to the video in the comments by stating that she initially thought Tom Felton owned The Dubai Mall and only realised that the video was an advertisement by the end of it. One could argue that this is an understandable mistake to make as Felton has won several awards for his portrayal of Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter series which couldn’t have been accomplished if he wasn’t a convincing actor.
