Colour us hyped. We finally have a look at Ramy Youssef, Esquire Middle East January 2023 cover star, opposite Emma Stone in Poor Things, the latest film from Yorgos Lanthimos, coming on September 8.

Lanthimos has cemented himself as one of the most original artists working in film today, helming the cult classic Dogtooth (2009), as well as The Lobster (2015), Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017), and the Oscar winner The Favourite (2018), the latter of which also starred Stone.
“From filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and producer Emma Stone comes the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation,” reads the official description of the film, based on the book of the same name by Alisdair Gray.
Youssef plays Max McCandless.
“I’ve always had this immigrant mindset of, ‘alright, I’ll do as much as I can. I’ll catch what I can eat,’ But then suddenly this director I’m obsessed with just asked me to be in something he was making. That’s just a gift. How could you ever plan that? And it was truly one of the most creatively satisfying things I’ve ever been a part of, and all I had to do was show up,” Youssef told us about the project in January.
The teaser just dropped and we’ll have more to share with you soon on Youssef’s turn to film.
