- Jared leto will take on Marvel’s Morbius role in new Spider-Man spinoff
- The film – which Sony owns the rights too – will not includer Spider-Man himself
- It’s expected this will be another standalone adventure (similiar to Venom)
- Leto shared pictures taken from the set, due for a summer 2020 release
We’ve finally got our first real look at the Spider-Man spin-off Morbius, and Jared Leto’s tortured bloodsucker is already getting up to evil deeds: standing still during rush hour.
The Academy Award-winning actor uploaded the looping teaser on Thursday, which shows Leto playing The Living Vampire’s human alter-ego, biochemist Michael Morbius, for the first time.
It was captioned with the quote: “Because no one else will walk this path…this place of shadows, where we do what must be done, no matter the cost. #MORBIUS”.
Morbius was created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane in Amazing Spider-Man #101 in 1971, fighting with and against the famous web-slinger ever since. The character is the result of a botched experiment to cure a rare blood disorder.
Leto shared a photo from the set last month, but his character was largely obscured by a clapper board.

It’s expected that the film, which is set for a July 31, 2020 release, will not feature Spider-Man due to rights issues.
It’s not the only Spider-Man spin-off on the way, though. Tom Hardy will return as Venom in 2020, and Sony is also working on a standalone movie for the Korean-American female superhero, Silk.
