The film has cast a spell on cinemas worldwide

  • Aladdin has knocked John Wick 3: Parabellum off the box-office top spot
  • The Disney live-action remake will reportedly take in US$105-million its opening weekend (it’s currently at the US$86.1-million mark with one more day to go)
  • This is one of many live-action remakes from Disney over the last 12-months, including Dumbo and The Jungle Book

Disney’s live-action Aladdin flick took an estimated US$86.1 million domestically during its opening weekend. It has knocked both Avengers: Endgame and John Wick 3: Parabellum down a spot.

The film is expected to make a total of US$105 million when ticket sales are revealed tomorrow after the US’ labour day weekend.

The film – which is one a of a slew of live-action remakes from Disney, including last-year’s The Jungle Book and Dumbo – is directed by Guy Ritchie. It stars Esquire Cover Star Mena Massoud as the wily streetrat, Namoi Scott as Princess Jasmine, and Will Smith as the genie.

This new version is an adaption of Disney’s beloved 1992 classic – which featured the unforgettable voice of Robin Williams as the quick-witted genie.

BONUS: MENA MASSOUD IS ABOUT TO CHANGE EVERYTHING

This means that last-weeks box-office leader, John Wick 3: Parabellum has slipped to second place (taking US$30.5 million) over the same period. In third is Disney’s blockbuster Avengers: Endgame with US$20.1 million.

Rounding out the list was Pokemon: Detective Pikachu and Brightburn
