Massimo is back in the controversial film series, which was a global phenomenon on Netflix in 2020

Michele Morrone was, in many ways, the biggest breakout star of 2020.

His controversial Netflix film 365 Days, though it found mixed reviews, was one of the most watched pieces of content of the year on any platform, trending across the world and turning Michele Morrone quite literally into an overnight sensation.

“When Netflix decided to distribute it, I knew it would be good exposure, but I was not expecting all of this. I was not expecting Forbes to be proclaiming it as the most watched film in the history of Netflix,” he told Esquire Middle East several months ago.

“You have to understand,” he begins, “the night the film premiered on Netflix, I went to sleep and I had 48k followers [on Instagram]. When I woke up I had 2.1 million.”

His fans have some good news to wake up to today: the project that Made Morrone a star is set to return, with not one but two sequels.

Netflix announced the start of production on 365 Days parts 2 and 3, with both Morrone’s character of Massimo and Anna-Maria Sieklucka as Laura to return.

According to Variety, their reunion will be complicated by Massimo’s ties to his family and a new mystery man who enters Laura’s life to earn her heart and trust, no matter the cost.

The original story followed Massimo, a member of the Sicilian mafia who kidnaps Laura and gives her 365 days to fall in love with him.

Magdalena Lamparska and Otar Saralidze are set to return as well, with Simone Susinna joining as Nacho, a new character. Barbara Bialowąs and Tomasz Mandes are returning to direct.

The original film was based on a book by Blanka Lipinska, who wrote the film, and the sequels will be based on the sequel books This day’ and ‘Next 365 Days’. Lipinska will also be co-writing the sequels, after co-writing the original.

“‘365 Days’ was one of our most popular films for our members in 2020. We’re working closely with Blanka Lipinska, the author of the ‘365 Days’ trilogy of books and writer of the film, to continue Laura and Massimo’s story on screen. Their journey together is full of many twists and turns as our characters continue to grow and learn more about themselves.” Lukasz Kluskiewicz, content acquisition manager of Netflix films for central and Eastern Europe and Poland, said.

“I’m so excited to show fans of my novels all over the world this fresh look at the characters and to continue Laura and Massimo’s story.”
