The director thanked the “extraordinary” people of Abu Dhabi for allowing Tom Cruise and company to nearly complete the two sequels in the emirate.

Tom Cruise and company have wrapped in Abu Dhabi on Mission Impossible 7 and 8.

Christopher McQuarrie, the film’s director, posted a heartfelt message to the emirate on his Instagram, thanking Abu Dhabi for helping save the film’s difficult production in the face of COVID-19, which spanned multiple continents, and for the hospitality it provided.

“Of the many challenges we’ve faced on our journey, none will be greater than outshining the gifts Abu Dhabi has given us,” McQuarrie said on Instagram.
McQuarrie went on to thank all the key players involved in the film’s production in Abu Dhabi.

“On behalf of our entire cast and crew, sincerest and most heartfelt thanks to the Government of Abu Dhabi, His Excellency Mohamed Al Mubarak, the Abu Dhabi Film Commission, twofour54, Etihad Airways and CEO Tony Douglas, ADAC and CEO Shareef Al Hashmi, HM Ambassador to the UAE Patrick Moody, The United States Marine Corp and all of our incredible military personnel,” said McQuarrie.

“And, of course, thanks to our extraordinary local cast, crew and the very fine people of Abu Dhabi. We shall most sincerely miss you until we see you again.”

The cast and crew have returned to London, with the majority of the film in the can.

“Now back to London for a few finishing touches. All aboard for our greatest challenge yet…” said McQuarrie.

Reports over the weekend stated that production had shut down unexpectedly, painting a negative picture of the situation.

A source on set confirmed to Esquire Middle East that production finished as planned, with the cast and crew flying out when they had initially expected to.

McQuarrie also quoted Antoine De Saint Exupery, the French author of the Little Prince, in his statement: “What makes the desert beautiful is that somewhere it hides a well.”

McQuarrie also posted a photo from the Louvre Abu Dhabi over the weekend, implying it is also being used as the set for a key part of the upcoming films.
