The Star Wars actor will star in the ‘Metal Gear Solid’ film

Video game films have a bad rap; and in some cases rightly so.

Who can forget the bin-fire that was Jake Gyllenhaal’s Prince of Persia, or any number of Resident Evil movies. But for every bust, there is a film that takes the video game source material and runs with it.

Most notable, that would be last year’s Sonic The Hedgehog, Detective Pikachu and Tomb Raider.

The one thing that ties these three diamonds in the rough are solid acting, and it seems that PlayStation Studios has taken note.

It has just cast Oscar Isaac – he of Star Wars fame – in the role of Solid Snake, in the first ever Metal Gear Solid feature film.

Metal Gear Solid is a 33-year-old franchise that sees superspy Snake take on all manner of over-the-top baddie. It was originally created by now video game legend Hideo Kojima for Konami.

According to filmmakers, the script has already been written – by none other than Derek Connoly (who wrote ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’) and Avi Arad (who worked on ‘Into the Spider-Verse’).

So solid acting and a decent script? The future of the new Metal Gear Solid movie is looking bright indeed.
