Khabib Nurmagomedov is staying true to his word of retiring, saying that he will only return to the octagon for another MMA bout if his mother gives him her blessing.
That has left him time to purchase Gorilla Fighting Championship, and re-name it Eagle Fighting Championship (EFC) after the fighter’s nickname ‘The Eagle’.
He purchased the championship for US$1 million.
At the EFC, Nurmagomedov will get his first taste of what being a promotor feels like.
Many fans hoped that buying the club would automatically lead to Nurmagomedov getting back in the octagon, especially given that EFC fights will also be featured on UFC’s Fight Pass. The fighter from Dagestan remains part of the USADA testing pool, meaning that he can technically fight again, but says he will not without his mother’s blessing.
