The Batman‘s Robert Pattinson knows what it’s like to face the wrath of superhero fans, having previously been criticised for comments he made about the Dark Knight.
Last year, the actor – who will play the Caped Crusader in director Matt Reeves’ new film – argued that Batman isn’t a superhero because he doesn’t have superpowers.

Now, Pattinson has responded to the backlash, admitting he still doesn’t really get fans’ side of the argument. After all, being mega rich and the world’s greatest detective isn’t quite the same as shooting lasers out of your eyes.
“I wasn’t educated about the subject,” he jokingly told Time Out. “People got very angry about it. It’s bizarre. I still can’t understand the argument. OK, he’s a superhero, I’m sorry!
“The next headline, ‘Pattinson retracts – Batman is, in fact, a superhero. He takes it back.'”
Despite making light of the situation, Pattinson really does care about how his Batman will be received by fans.
“I’m only worried about if people like it when it’s done,” he said. “Right now, people can think what they want.”
And he’s definitely not hiding his excitement about donning the cowl and cape, calling it “the coolest thing ever”.
Previously, the actor revealed he was preparing for the role by reading a whole bunch of comic books. And in a later, mildly alarming announcement, he revealed his Batman voice will sound “kind of piratey”.
Just yesterday (January 27), Reeves confirmed that filming has officially started on The Batman, sharing an image of a clapperboard on an expensive-looking leather chair that can only belong in Wayne Manor.
The Batman has a release date of June 25, 2021.
