There’s no denying that Mariah Carey is the bonafide queen of Christmas. A full quater of a century after it was first released, her iconic Christmas single ‘All I want for Christmas’ has claimed the number one position on the Billboard 100 for the very first time. Imagine that.
Usually our festive playlists don’t break from the shiny, happy tunes and favourites include George Michael’s “Last Christmas” and Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You”.
Her Christmas single was first released in 1994 and though it came close, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” never claimed the top spot until just now.
“We wanted to make a modern classic,” Carey said during a YouTube livestream for the video’s debut. “It’s kind of the opposite of the original video. This is more of a production.”
For the new video, Carey left no stone unturned with a Santa Costume, elves, backup dancers, live toy soldiers, and lots of happy children.

Merry Christmas is the first Christmas album, and the fourth studio album, by Mariah Carey. The album features cover versions of popular Christmas tunes and original material. She worked with Walter Afanasieff, with whom she wrote all of the original tracks, as well as producing Carey’s interpretations of the covered material.
