Some of the RODE Reel 2019 competition winners are scarily good

The winners of the Rode Reel 2019 competition (the world’s biggest short-film competition) have been announced, and the results are satisfyingly good. 

The competition had participants from all over the world, and the winners below will take home a shared prize pot of over US$1 million in prizes. There were 29 varying categories, by genre, technical difficulty and region.

Judge’s Film Prize

Good Boy – Ben Leoberg
A suspense story involving man’s best friend. Good Boy was the highest-scoring film of the competition, taking top prize. 

People’s Choice

Spirit of Kerala – AJ (Film Ferry)
A short film located along the riverside in India, and highlights the emotion, rhythm, cutulre and celebration around riverboat racing. 

Best Young Filmaker

Pollution – James Walker
An emotional story that demands action on one of the biggest environmental issues of our generation.

BTS – Educational

Studio Tour in 360 VR – Cam Shand
Not many people would believe a film tutorial and studio tour could be entertaining, but this one is. 

BTS – Entertainment

Good Citizen – Mathieu Jonckheere
A funny take on a behind-the-scenes video that combines stereotypical BTS parts along with a funny take on the ‘magic’ of cinema

“THE TRAILER IS THE MOVIE”

Feliz Navidead – Sebastian Khayat
A cheeky take on a typical action flick starring none other than Santa Clause
