Sam Mendes does not want to hide the reality of World War 1 in his new movie 1917. The movie will follow two young British soldiers tasked with the impossible — to deliver a message that could save the lives of 1,600 soldiers.
The film has a lot of star power behind it and stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Strong, Richard Madden, Colin Firth, and Andrew Scott.
Shot by legendary cinematographer Roger Deakins – Oscar-winning cameraman behind Sicario and Blade Runner 2049 – 1917 is already pegged as an Oscar-worthy contender.
The film’s official synopsis says:
“At the height of the First World War, two young British soldiers, Schofield (Captain Fantastic’s George MacKay) and Blake (Game of Thrones’ Dean-Charles Chapman) are given a seemingly impossible mission. In a race against time, they must cross enemy territory and deliver a message that will stop a deadly attack on hundreds of soldiers-Blake’s own brother among them.”
Similar to Dunkirk, 1917 will show the events in real-time from the point of view of the two young soldiers. It premieres worldwide on January 10, 2020.
