Last night marked the first Emmy’s celebration minus a host, and viewers were not very happy.
The awards ceremony opened up with a voice-over revealing that Homer Simpson would be taking over as host. But that idea seemed to go away, after being smashed by an animated piano on screen. Next up was Anthony Adderson (Black-ish), with other celebrities taking turns to do their ‘bit’.
While Bryan Cranston’s delivered a montage on the power of television, it wasn’t until Nick Cannon and Ken Jeong took to the stage to film a TikTok video that audiences really let Twitter know much much they disliked the show.
TikTok was the fourth most downloaded app last year, and lets users share short videos to their collective audiences. And despite being popular with millions around the world, the stunt backfired on just about every level.
Within minutes of the stunt, Twitter was awash with criticism:
Viewers were also quick to lampoon the lack of a host, saying that it meant the event drag on or was absolutely painful.
