It’s also releasing earlier than Disney, coming on November 1

Apple has announced the price of its Apple TV+ is cheaper than we thought.

The streaming wars are officially under way, entertainment giants like Apple, Disney, and the BBC are all scrambling to enter the platform and take a slice of the pie that Netflix and Amazon Prime horde.

Invariably the front runners in this race are Apple and Disney. Apple has just announced some information on its service that give it an edge over the competition.

It’s cheaper than we thought! Priced at US $4.99 a month, it will be lower than Disney’s US $6.99 monthly fee and Netflix’s cheapest option of US $8.99. Originally the internet suspected Apple’s entry would be around US $9.99 for its all-original service, but this is a pleasant surprise.

Even better news is it’s coming earlier than we thought, slated for a November 1 release across 100 countries. This is almost two weeks sooner than Disney’s November 12 debut.

The service will be available on all Apple devices, and up to six people can enjoy watching from a single account. “Apple TV+ is an unprecedented global video service with an all-original slate,” says Jamie Erlicht, Apple’s head of Worldwide Video. “We look forward to giving audiences everywhere the opportunity to enjoy these compelling stories within a rich, personalized experience on all the screens they love.”

Unlike its competitors, Apple’s eponymous streaming service is said to be comprised of only originals, meaning it won’t have backlogs of pre-existing shows. It’s estimated Apple has more than 30 shows in the work and is throwing US $6 billion dollars at the mission.

“With Apple TV+, we are presenting all-original stories from the best, brightest and most creative minds, and we know viewers will find their new favorite show or movie on our service,” assures Zack Van Amburg, Apple’s head of Worldwide Video.

One of the most anticipated shows Apple is launching with is The Morning Show, a gritty newsroom drama with Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell. It hones in on the mental taxation on the fast-paced nature of news reporting and the rifts this can cause in someone’s’ life.

Apple TV+ will offer a free week trial and also offers anyone who purchases any new iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, iPod touch or Mac will receive one year of Apple TV+ for free.
