Gossip Girl – the series based on the books written by Cecily von Ziegesar – is coming back to TV.
HBO’s new streaming platform – HBO Max – has ordered ten new hour-long episodes of the series, following on from when the original left-off.
Gossip Girl aired for six seasons on the CW network, from 2007-2012. The series followed young students at an elite Manhattan prep school. The new season will pick up eight years after the Gossip Girl website shut down. It will follow an entirely new generation of rich private school kids.
The original show starred Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Ed Westwick, Penn Badgeley and Chace Crawford, with Kristen Bell playing the voice of the ‘gossip girl’ narrator. However, it’s not known if any of the original cast members will appear on the show.
Joshua Safran (who made Quantico) will write and executive produce the new version of Gossip Girl, while original creators Josh Schwarts and Stephanie Savage serve as executive producers.
The show will air on HBO’s new streaming platform that is set to launch in the spring of 2020.
So far, the streaming platform has signed up shows like Friends, Pretty Little Liars and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
