Remember when we used to patiently wait for an episode of our favourite shows to come out every week?

In the run up to Stranger Things 3 it quite literally felt like the franchise was taking over the world. Endless brand deals with clothing stores and shoe shops, pop-up stores, video games and even a team up with both Coca Cola and Burger King. It seems to have worked though, a lot of people are watching it.

Stranger Things 3 cleverly came out over the Fourth of July weekend, meaning all those North Americans out there whom took a few extra days off for the holiday, used that time to find out the fates of our favourite Goonies-inspired gang.

Netflix now has released the numbers for the shows viewership just under a week of its debut. Unsurprisingly, it is the most watched season yet.

This is the most popular thing Netflix has ever launched it claims, beating out any other film or series.

The funny thing about this announcement is the 18.2 million that have already watched the entire season. Almost 50% of people straight up binged the show in a weekend.

We wait an entire year, trudge through all the brand deals and advertisements, and then burn through the whole thing in a matter of days.

Stranger Things 3 took a totally different approach than the previous seasons, and it was something some fans were down with and others not so much. The season is more of a coming-of-age plotline, less of the child wonderment and more of the grown up problems.

Still, Millie Bobby Brown and the rest of the team managed to clutch out the most popular show of all time on Netflix. We’ll have to wait and see how Stranger Things 4 fairs up.
