If you still have a Walter White shaped hole in your life then perhaps, perhaps… Jason Bateman’s Marty Byrde will fill it.
The Arrested Development star plays a seemingly straight-laced Chicago financial advisor in upcoming Netflix drama Ozark, who also happens to be the top serving money-launderer for a drug lord from the second largest drug cartel in Mexico. Which sort of sounds like Breaking Bad meets Narcos – so surely nothing good is going to come out of that…
When his family’s lives are under threat, Marty is forced to relocate with wife Wendy [Laura Linney] and their two children to the lazy and tranquil lake region of the Missouri Ozarks. It may appear calm and idyllic, but Linney’s Wendy isn’t convinced.
“Look at around!” she shouts in the first trailer released by Netflix. “This place is death!” The plot of the gritty drama had been kept under-wraps up.
The teaser clip also sees Bateman’s Bryde over his head in dirty money, domestic disputes, possible arson and a strip club. He will attempt to clean millions of illegal dollars and turn them into hundreds of millions of dollars.
Bateman also directed four of the episodes in the ten-part series, and serves as executive producer.
He’s previously stepped behind the camera to direct Arrested Development episode ‘Afternoon Delight’, and released his directorial feature-length debut Bad Words co-starring Allison Janney in 2013.
The cast also includes Esai Morales, Julia Garner, Marc Menchaca, Jason Butler Harner and Harris Yulin.
Meanwhile, Bateman recently confirmed that he had signed on to more Arrested Development.
Ozark will launch globally on Netflix on 21 July, 2017.
