In a moment that art fans across the GCC have been waiting for, the date has finally been announced for the opening of the Louvre Abu Dhabi. That date is November 11, 2017.
The museum will be the crown jewel in the UAE capital’s Saadiyat Island Cultural District, where it will host 600+ artworks, including 300 masterpieces on loan from 13 key institutions including famous works from masters such as Leonardo da Vinci, Henri Matisse and Edouard Manet.
The Louvre Abu Dhabi will be the very first universal museum (the history of art will be displayed in periods of time rather than by country or movement) in the entire Arab region.
The Louvre Abu Dhabi is part of the capital’s Museum City, made up of 55 other buildings, including the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.
