It’s part of The Kingdom’s ‘Let’s Make it Green’ campaign

Saudi Arabia has kicked off a new Green campaign that it hopes will reduce desertification of the country.

It has pledged to plant 10 million trees by the end of 2021.

The Minister of Environment, Water, Agriculture, Abdulrahman Bin Abdulmohsen Al Fadley, announced the campaign on Twitter with the caption ‘Let’s Make it Green’. The campaign will run from this month to next August 2021.

“I am happy to launch a campaign ‘Let’s Make it Green’ in cooperation with our partners in the public and private sectors for reducing the desertification, and to develop natural habitats and improve the quality of life,” he said.

The Ministry will work closely with the National Centre for Development of the Vegetation.

Desertification happens when natural or humans decrease the biological productivity of drylands. Environmental factors that lead to things like desertification include climate change, deforestation and overgrazing by cattle.

The Let’s Make it Green campaign falls under the Saudi Vision 2030, which includes several goals about sustainability. Ahead of the announcement, Saudi Arabia’s major government departments tweeted tree emojis in solidarity.

In other news, at long last, Riot Games’ shooter Valorant is finally getting Middle East servers and support.

Previously, while you could play the game in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries, there were no official servers – meaning high latency, lag, and a terrible ping.

That is due to change starting October 14, as Riot Games has said it will be switching on its Middle East servers, as well as Arabic language support.
