The release date of Grand Theft Auto IV (or GTA 6) has just been revealed by Rockstar Games’ parent company Take-Two interactive. It points to an April 2023 release for a new GTA title.
The reveal comes from marketing budgets – which effectively give away when Rockstar will be releasing its next big game – with the company expected to spend a huge US$90 million in marketing in April 2023.
That’s more than double what the company usually spends on any given year, except when it is promoting a new game.
While there is nothing concrete, it does seem like the right fit for a GTA game. Red Dead Redemption was released last year (so we don’t expect another trip to the Wild West anytime soon).
It also makes sense timing-wise, as GTA 6 is expected to land on next-generation consoles – the PS5 and the Xbox Series X respectively.
While all of this can be taken with a dash of sodium – because nothing has been officially unveiled – the rumour and speculation does seem to add up. And given the sheer size of a GTA title, development is almost certainly underway; even if we are looking at a 2023 release.
