Virgil Abloh's new IKEA collection is finally available in the UAE
Ikea's new collection with Virgil Abloh and one of its most anticipated one yet is finally available in the UAE. It's where "functionality meets fashion" according to the designer and the Swedish company calls it "fashion you can't wear".
The menswear world's hottest name right now, Virgil Abloh, alongside IKEA’s creative team deep-dived into the lives of young adults, to figure out what exactly they need to move out on their own for the first time. Over several workshops at Ikea’s design centre in Älmhult, Sweden, they worked together to develop sketches and prototypes in their workshop.
The range created is a collection of everyday items such as a day bed, table, chair, mirror, rug, bed textiles, cabinet and accessories that have been created keeping fashion in mind. The inspiration behind creating these statement pieces was to help any home stand out and add an artful quality to regular items. Abloh created the collection to align with Ikea's "Democratic Design’’ concept of keeping it affordable, functional and high on quality.
The 15 pieces in the collection include the Frakta bag, which has been redesigned in yellow and embossed with the text ‘Sculpture’, a grass carpet that reads ‘Wett Grass’, a numberless clock with a face that says ‘Temporary’ and the known toolbox that reads ‘Homework’’.
This Ikea line will be called Markerad, which means “clear-cut,” “crisp,” or “pronounced” in Swedish.
