George Clooney's monochromatic look is a style lesson in keeping it simple
Over the last couple of weeks, George Clooney has made one thing very clear: he is now the official Svengali of low key grown up style. Whether it’s casual dad fits, suits, or the addition of a wildly impressive beard, the man who famously introduced nipples to Batman has been on a bit a sartorial tear. And Tuesday night he added yet another notch to his list of style accomplishments with a picture perfect monochromatic tailored ensemble.
On one hand, it’s about as simple a look as you can get—midnight blue suit, dark navy button-up, and black wingtip brogues. The beauty of it is that it’s executed perfectly, in both fit and color. And it’s an excellent lesson on why you should consider adding a navy button down to your wardrobe.
Clooney here shows how good one can look with a suit. But a great navy button down can also be used to spruce up a casual look. Ditch the suit for a pair of either dark indigo or faded indigo jeans, and the brogues for something casual in a neutral suede, and you’ve basically created a hall-of-fame business casual or spruced up weekend casual look.
A great navy button down is yet another Swiss army knife piece of clothing, one that can be used for a whole range of scenarios. And it’s further proof that you don’t need to do anything crazy to look good. It’s a shirt and a color that will look good on literally everyone, and it will work for any setting, now matter how wild or how conservative.
