- The 50th anniversary of the moon landing received a very special anniversary party courtesy of Omega and NASA
- To mark the big day, Omega showed off a Speedmaster with golden chronograph
- The limited-edition timepiece is crafted out of new Moonshine gold material
- George and Amal Clooney were in attendance, as was astronaut Buzz Aldrin
This weekend saw a very special anniversary party take place at Florida’s Kennedy Space Centre.
Omega partnered up with NASA to pay tribute to Apollo 11 – the first mission to put men on the moon back in 1969.
The glitzy affair – full of golden astronaut statues, red carpets, and a Saturn 5 rocket, housed some of the most celebrated astronauts in history, a host of NASA and Omega ambassadors, and of course, the Clooney duo.
George and Amal, along with astronauts Charlie Duke and Thomas Stafford enjoyed their “Golden Moments” dinner underneath a rocket, where they enjoyed dinner.
The watch Omega has made to celebrate this moment is the Apollo 11 Speedmaster, the new addition to the Speedmaster family uses special 18K Moonshine gold – a new alloy which is more resistant to fading and has a paler hue than your usual yellow gold OMEGA claim.
This piece, which is a recreation and celebration of earlier Apollo 11 OMEGAs houses the new Calibre 3861 movement, which allows for the glamourous burgundy-touched Chrono functions. The 50th-anniversary watch is limited to 1,014 pieces, making it an incredibly collectable watch for those interested in Omega or lunar travel.
