Even Pierce Brosnan wants a female James Bond
Veteran James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan likes the idea of a female actor taking the mantel of British spy James Bond.
He called the idea of a female James Bond, ‘exciting’.
The debate over who should take Daniel Craig’s place upon retiring as James Bond after the release of Cary Fukunaga’s No Time To Die is currently raging. However, a strong case is being made that it should be a woman, not a man, to replace James Bond.
In the new film – James Bond’s 25th official outing – Craig’s Bond appears to have been retired and replaced with a new 007 (played by Lashana Lynch). While Lynch has picked up the double-o codename of her predecessor, James Bond is still very much a man.
But according to Brosnan, there’s no reason why that shouldn’t change in future. Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Brosnan said he’d like to see a gender-flipped Bond in future.
“Yes! I think we’ve watched the guys do it for the last 40 years, get out of the way, guys, and put a woman up there. I think it would be exhilarating; it would be exciting,” the 66-year-old actor said.
“I don’t think that’s going to happen with the Broccolis. I don’t think that is going to happen under their watch,” Brosnan said.
Speaking to the current #MeToo scandal, Brosnan also said that future James Bonds would have to change the way they interacted with women.
“Without question, yes... The #MeToo movement has been relevant and significant and well needed in our society, so they’ll have to address that,” Brosnan said.
