Is Macaulay Culkin going to star in the Home Alone reboot?
Disney is continuing to beef up its upcoming streaming service, now we know there’s a Home Alone reboot coming to Disney+ as well.
The company is already gearing up to take down the titan that is Netflix by combining forces with both ESPN+ and Hulu, now Disney is giving us yet another incentive to buy the service as a Home Alone reboot is in the works.
Little is known about the reboot, in fact all that is known is that it’s happening at some point and it will be exclusive to Disney+.
In Disney’s rich tapestry of content is everything from Fox-owned The Simpsons, to the Star Wars franchise, to the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In an enormous US $71 billion deal, the Disney-Fox merger became a reality, what this means is that the Mickey Mouse company now can play around with formally Fox owned titles such as Home Alone.
Coming out in 1990 and standing as one of the most beloved festive films of all time, Home Alone follows Kevin trying to fend off burglars from his home while his family have forgotten he's even alone back there.
According to Bob Iger, Disney chief:
"We are also focused on leveraging Fox's vast library of great titles to further enrich the content mix on our... platforms -- for example, reimagining 'Home Alone,' 'Night at the Museum,' 'Cheaper by the Dozen' and 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' for a new generation on Disney+,"
While we said little is known about the reboot, what is known is that Macaulay Culkin himself is interested. That’s right, the man that played the genius and lovable Kevin McCallister almost three decades ago.
In an all too real tweet about what we actually get up to when we’re home alone, Culkin joked at what an updated Home Alone would look like.
Not only this, the actor followed up his tweet by asking Disney to call him. That’s right, Culkin wants in on the reboot and if there’s anything that’ll get butts in seats, it’s seeing the return of Kevin in some fashion.
This wouldn't be Culkin's first crack at reimagining the Home Alone films, back in 2018 he teamed up with Google to recreate some of the films most iconic scenes. The advert saw Kevin, all grown up, reliving the most iconic moments from the first movie, this time with Google Assistant tech taking care of the bad guys.
