The never-before-seen picture of a youthful Sheikh Mohamed and the King of Malaysia
The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst is a military training centre with an alumni list more impressive than that of the world’s top universities.
Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces has just reminded us all that he and the King of Malaysia are on that impressive list.
Sandhurst is one of the handful of military academies and one of the most popular among royals to attend. Especially the royals out here in the Middle East. Graduates of Sandhurst include King Abdullah of Jordan, King Hamad of Bahrain, Sheikh Tamim, Emir of Qatar, and Sultan Qaboos of Oman.
Described as a gruelling 44-week long ordeal, the training tests physical and intellectual skills of cadets and also instils in them the values held by the British Army.
Back in 1979, a young 18-year old Sheikh Mohamed attended the college alongside his friend, the now-King of Malaysia, Sultan Abdullah Ahmad Shah.
The young pair can be seen in the usual British military uniform, a similar photo to one Sheikh Hamad once shared of himself attending Sandhurst.
The throw-back photo comes as Sheikh Mohamed attended the coronation of the Malaysian king in Kuala Lumpur. It is said the two have retained a bond since their time at Sandhurst, the two also met recently in Abu Dhabi to undergo trade talks.
