Black Panther is breaking all box office records
The first major black superhero movie was always going to be history-making, but Black Panther is also breaking records at the box office.
The film earned an estimated $235 million in North America over the holiday weekend and becoming the most profitable February movie debut of all time. It’s also the fifth-highest debut weekend gross ever.
Compared to other Marvel films, Panther is still number two for opening weekend box office, clocking in behind the first Avengers film. But it’s the biggest opening for any non-sequel, as well as the most successful launch of a new superhero and the best opening weekend for any movie not directed by a white man.
And with a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes, Panther is earning critical acclaim as well as lots and lots of bank.
