Etihad Rail continue their expansion across the UAE as they’ve just shared a video update of their construction progress on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai:
Over 75 percent of Etihad Rail’s stage 2 has been completed which will cover 605km (376 miles) from Ghuweifat on the Saudi Arabian Border to Fujairah. The first stage which connects the inland gas fields of Liwa and Shah in to the port town of Ruwais in Abu Dhabi has been operational since 2016.
Etihad Rail will travel through the mountains
Last month they had revealed construction of a bridge that will pass through the Fujairah mountains.
In an effort to reduce traffic, the train, which travels at a speed of 200km per hour can carry up to 400 passengers per train. Passengers will be able to travel from Abu Dhabi to Dubai as well as from Dubai to Fujairah in only 50 minutes, between Abu Dhabi and Al Ruwais in 70 minutes, and from Abu Dhabi and Fujairah in 100 minutes.

A royal inspection
Last year, Chairman of Etihad Rail and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court, Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan boarded the a train for 10km to inspect the progress of Etihad Rail.
“The National Railway Network will play a pivotal role in providing new economic opportunities, facilitate trade and transportation of freight across the country, resulting in increased levels of efficiency and productivity whilst driving the economic growth of the country.” Said Etihad Rail on Twitter.
