The 2020 edition of San Diego Comic-Con will take place later this month virtually after the event was cancelled last month due to the coronavirus.
The new event is being dubbed ‘Comic-Con @ Home’. The official date of the expo is yet to be revealed but will happen sometime over the summer.
Comic-Con is one of the biggest entertainment events in the US, but will this year be a 100 per cent virtual conference. The organizers poked fun at their own expense when they announced the digital expo, last night:
“Free parking. Comfy chairs. Personalized snacks. No lines. Pets welcome. Badges for all. And a front-row seat to… Comic-Con @ Home.” The announcement came in the form of an 18-second video.
Organizers have yet to reveal the full schedule of panels and releases this year, nor how the event would be broadcast. The price of ‘attending’ the conference is also still a mystery.
San Diego Comic-Con usually brings together 135,000 fans, many who dress up as their favourite comic book characters.
San Diego Comic-Con was due to take place on July 23-26. This marks the first time the event has been cancelled in 50 years.
Following the announcement, organizers confirmed that the 2021 edition of the show would take place July 22-25.
