A bit of unexpected good news for Shenmue fans.

Shenmue fans aren’t used to good news.

Having waited more than ten years to play Shenmue III last year (and a lengthy crowdfunding campaign) many thought that would be it for the next couple of years, at least.

Fortunately, there is another bit of news – thanks to Crunchyroll and Adult Swin, SEGA’s Shenmue will be getting a 13-episode animated series.

Sarah Victor, the head of Crunchyroll Development said, T’he first Shenmue video game was released more than 20 years ago and we are excited to work with Adult Swim again to bring this franchise to life through the anime series. We look forward to showing our fans more of this action-packed adventure series”.

There is no release date as yet, but the source material will be in good hands. Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki will serve as executive producer, while Sakurai Chikara from Telecom Animation Film Studios will be in the director’s chair.
