Infinity Ward has unveiled more details of its soon-to-be-launched Call of Duty Battle Royale clone: Warzone.
The game will not require players to have a PlayStation Plus subscription to play the new mode (which was highly rumoured) and means that Warzone will sit comfortably alongside Fortnite and Apex Legends that don’t require a paid subscription.
However, that’s a different case on the Xbox One: as Fortnite and Apex Legends do require Xbox Live Gold to play online.
Warzone will be Call of Duty’s second time in the battle royale firing line: following Blackout in Black Ops 4.
This time around the battle royale mode is a different beast altogether, as Activision is letting players download Warzone for free (previously, you had to own a copy of Black Ops 4 to play Blackout).
Warzone has two main modes: Battle Royale and Plunder.
The Battle Royale mode features 50 teams of three people (there is no solo option at launch) who will fight each other until only one side remains.
In addition to a bigger player count than its rivals (Fortnite has 100 players, Apex Legends has 99), Warzone will let players duke it out 1v1 mode in the ‘gulag’ for a chance to return to the battlefield.
IN Plunder mode, players race to collect the most cash by stealing it from other players.
Call of Duty: Warzone is officially out today on PS4, Xbox One and PC. People who already own Modern Warfare can download it right now, while those without the game will have to wait a few extra hours.
