Next year’s crop of new smartphone launches from the likes of Apple, Samsung, Huawei (and others) will boast huge cameras.
This comes as Qualcomm – the maker of most of the insides of these smartphones – unveil its latest chips, which have the power to manage enormous image files up to 200 megapixels.
For those without in-depth knowledge of file sizes, current smartphones currently have the capacity to for anywhere from 8-16 megapixels, while camera-focused smartphones boast up to 50 megapixels.
Until now, the highest pixel counts available on a smartphone include the MI Mix Alpha and the Mi CC9 Pro by Xiaomi (which boast 108-megapixel cameras).
Images made up of massive pixels allow the user to take images with more detail, and that can be magnified and cropped to highlight certain details. They also let users print their snaps in very large formats.
Advances in both the power and the speed of these chipsets now give smartphone makers a range of features to go in future smartphones. Expect not just better battery life and extra camera oomph, but Qualcomm’s next-gen chips are all 5G compatible.
