The world famous book by Khaled Hosseini, The Kite Runner, has had a successful theatre adaptation run in London and will soon be coming to Dubai. The international bestselling novel, this haunting tale of friendship spans cultures and continents and follows one man’s journey to confront his past and find redemption. And now, that same novel will be adapted for the big stage.
Set during turbulent times beginning when Afghanistan was on the verge of war, when best friends are about to be torn apart, the production follows 12-year-old Amir and his friend Hassan, through to adulthood.
The book’s synopsis read: “It’s a beautiful afternoon in Kabul, the skies are full of colour and the streets are full of the excitement of a kite flying tournament, but no one can foresee the terrible incident that will shatter their lives forever.”
Since its publication in 2003, The Kite Runner has sold eight million copies worldwide and it will be performed at Dubai Opera from February 27 to 29 next year.
The Kite Runner is adapted by playwright, director, and professor Matthew Spangler. His critically acclaimed production of The Kite Runner has played in London’s West End at Wyndham’s Theatre and at the Playhouse Theatre.
The play is directed by Giles Croft who is also a playwright and his work has been produced widely in the UK and Europe.
