Use the app to get from Manhattan to JFK Airport

  • Uber now offers New Yorkers the chance to get from Manhattan to JFK Airport
  • Starting July 8, Uber Copter users will be able to make the trip in 8 minutes
  • It will cost between $200 and $225 per person
  • This is not a new concept, Uber launched its Uber Chopper concept in Dubai a few years ago and has an Uber service for boats as well

Get ready to take to the skies with Uber  if you’re in New York. If you’re late atching your flight from New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport, you can now book an Uber ‘Copter’ to take you there from Manhattan in just 8 minutes.

However, there’s a catch. This new service will only be available to Platinum and Diamond Uber Rewards members. They will be able to book a helicopter up to five days in advance for up to five people, that includes ground transportation on both ends.

The chopper will take off from near the Staten Island Ferry and land at a helipad near Terminal 8, and will run Monday through Friday. Ticket will cost anywhere between $200-250 and will be subject to Uber’s famous ‘surge pricing’.

Eric Allison, the head of Uber Elevate, said: “This is a trip that so many travellers make a day, and we see an opportunity to save them a huge amount of time on it.

“Our plan is to eventually roll out Uber Copter to more Uber customers and to other cities, but we want to do it right.”

This is not the first time the company has decided to run a helicopter service. Uber runs a similar Uber Chopper service in Dubai that takes customers on private city tours for AED 560 ($156).

The ride-share app is launching a ‘scUber’ service, a new submarine ridesharing service in the Great Barrier Reef in Australia as well. The service will run from May 27 to June 18, it will allow the public to explore Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
