Bentley has just pulled the wraps off a convertible version of its all-new Continental GT grand tourer. It’s pretty much the same ultra-luxurious coupe, however this time sans roof.
It takes just 19-seconds to raise or lower said roof (at speeds of up to 50kph) which folds below a small compartment behind the cabin. Buyers can choose to spec their that fabric roof in one of seven colours, including a rather fetching “tweed finish”.
There is a reason all cars don’t come in a convertible version; removing the top of a car can present handling issues due to air friction (which is known as ‘flexing’ in the car trade). Do cut down on that, engineers tend to add additional weight to the car’s chassis.
The new GT Convertible is no exception to that rule, and it weighs more than 160-kilogrammes more than its roof-laden brother.
Fortunately, that additional weight hasn’t put a damper on the car’s performance; it is capable of going from 0-100kph in just 3.8-seconds (which is just 0.1 seconds slower than the hard-top variant) with a top speed of 333kph.
Orders pick off next March, but if you want one you’d better start saving. Prices begin at around US$223,000 (AED820,205) (which is about US$30,000 more expensive than the regular GT).
