You never know how much you miss something until it’s gone. It was a poignant lesson we all learnt last year when our freedom to roam about unabated was taken away from us.

That restless desire to explore and move is at the heart of the brand-new sneaker from Christian Louboutin, Arpoador. Named after a beach in Rio de Janeiro, the all-terrain sneaker is the embodiment of the notion of freedom, combined with the designer’s love for Brazil.

Thanks to its technical two-sole structure, the hugely versatile sneaker is made to be just as functional on the streets as it is on the beach, or clambering over coastal rocks. The transparent outsole is not only very flexible, but its contours were carved with graphic lines to create a more dynamic feeling on the foot.

The insole, on the other hand, gives the Arpoador its key aesthetic element. Its design follows the curves of the sole and includes the maison’s recognizable red signature. Due to its adaptable nature, the shoe is also designed for comfort and carefully adjusted to absorb shocks when walking and for optimal insulation from the ground.

The Arpoador comes in several colours, but only 100 pairs of the limited-edition “Sand” shade (shown here) are available worldwide – just another thing you don’t want to miss once it’s gone.
