A new trailer for Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow solo movie has teased the film’s main villain: Taskmaster, a highly-trained mercenary.
Although he’s revealed towards the end of the trailer, it’s pretty clear that the showdown between Black Widow and Taskmaster is going to be a huge part of the film’s climax.
The footage seen in the new trailer was previously shown at Disney’s fan convention, D23.
Taskmaster sometimes plays an anti-hero in the Marvel Comic universe. He’s known to be able to mimic the physical capabilities of anyone he’s fighting (making him more than a match for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes).
The trailer also shows more of the reunion between character’s from Widow’s past, including Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova (who in the comics, becomes the second Black Widow). David Harbour also makes an appearance, as Red Guardian (basically, the Soviet version of Captain America).
As those who have seen Avengers: Endgame will no doubt have surmised, this Black Widow film takes place before Endgame – during the period between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War.
Black Widow is one of two big films from Marvel Studios this year, along with The Eternals – featuring an entirely new set of characters.
Black Widow will hit cinemas on May 1st.
