Not only is it the director’s first collaboration with Al Pacino, but it’s the first to use technology to de-age its main actors. The cost of the production? A cool US$125-million.
The film reportedly spans a massive timeline, with flashbacks going back as far as the 1950s. One reason the film took so long to make was its complex de-aging technology, to ensure each character looked and sounded younger.
No one expected a big cinema director like Scorsese to embrace a streaming service like Netflix instead of a traditional studio; the director has been a huge backer of traditional cinema for decades now. However, that does mean that all Netflix subscribers will get to watch the film on November 27.
