Kicking off its 270th anniversary celebrations in a big way, Vacheron Constantin has just unveiled a new stainless steel version of it Historiques 222 watch.

Building on success of the gold version of the Historique 222 (which was universally adored when released in 2023) the famed Swiss watchmaker has started its year-long anniversary with a move that will have every watch collector scrambling for their phones (and credit cards).

The 222 is one of Vacheron Constantin’s most celebrated models from its vast archives, and the addition of a new stainless steel version makes it more price-accessible… if you can get hold of one, that is.

Originally launched in 1977 to celebrate the company’s 222nd anniversary, the Vacheron Constantin 222 watch holds the distinction of being the Swiss manufacturer’s first integrated bracelet sports watch.

Designed by Jorg Hysek, the model was an immediate departure from the sports watch conventions of the time, which had mainly been professional models for pilots, divers and explorers, and captured a new cultural mood that blurred the lines between formality and sportiness.

Like all of the models in Vacheron Constantin’s Historiques collection, the 222 marked an important point in the Maison’s history. While retaining the distinctive design – along with the nostalgic charm – of the original, the 2025 re-edition in stainless steel is both contemporary and embodies the Maison’s core values of sophisticated refinement, a sense of casual ease and uncompromising commitment to the quest for excellence.

The design of the new stainless steel Vacheron Constantin Historique 222 watch features a dark blue dial but mainly follows the blueprint of its gold counterpart from 2023 with an angular case that measures 37mm in diameter by a rather svelte 7.95mm thick. Just like what can be observed on the previous version, a sapphire crystal sits within the 222’s prominently fluted bezel, while a display-style caseback closes up the reverse side of the watch and water resistance of 50m.

Although the case and bracelet of the new Historiques 222 are both made from stainless steel, the Maltese cross that appears on the lower right-hand corner of the watch is crafted from 18k yellow gold.
