Tudor can rightfully claim to have a history of supplying timepieces for various military units around the world for decades, and all that knowhow continues to trickle down to its collections. While all of Tudor’s dive watches are popular—to say the very least—the Pelagos FXD is something extra. This is a timepiece for enthusiasts.

Made from titanium it has a technical feel, the Pelagos FXD is constructed for those non-so-everyday situations. Case in point, it can only be worn with a single-pass NATO strap—a visceral reminder of the brand’s military history.

While it was originally introduced in 2021, in partnership with the French Navy, such was the positive feedback that the Pelagos FXD has now been expanded into a full collection.
An important note to make is that the (non FXD) Pelagos is already a serious dive watch. The addition of the FXD moniker, comes with a removal of other elements that wouldn’t be deemed ‘mission essential’ to those in command. Notably the water depth capability is reduced from 500m to a much more reasonable 200m, and the date window has been removed from the six o’clock position.

What is also key is that this military-spec diving watch is made with a fixed strap bar—hence the initials FXD. What that means is the bar that holds the strap to the lugs is machined as part of the case, rather than having a spring bar that will allow you to change the strap. Essentially, it is more durable and less showy—which is kind of the point of military-spec tool watches, no?

The FXD has a 42mm diameter, which isn’t small, but at 12.75mm thick and the fact that
it is made from lightweight titanium makes it highly wearable for a military-spec watch, making this timepiece capable of seeing action, but still suitable for civilians.
